Mexican Tapas Style at Mexicano, North Narrabeen Beach

On the recommendation of a few, we headed just up the road from our place, beachside to a newish local restaurant Mexicano to sample Mexican food tapas style.

Ex-Rockpool chef Sean Prenter has bought Mexican to the beach and this North Narrabeen restaurant serves succulent spicy corn on the cob, fresh and fragrant tapas, hand-rolled tortilla's and delicious cocktails.

We enjoyed the shared plates of fresh and tasty food, with a lovely balance of herb and spice. Dining on a Tuesday night, the place was still close to full and buzzing. We found the staff and service friendly, efficient and also very helpful when working out what and how much to order.
We started with
"Street Style Grilled Corn with Chipotle Mayonnaise - Lime and Cheese" $5 per piece
It was expensive corn on the cob....ahhh but it was worth it, juicy, spicy and spectacular.

Then we chose three items from the
Tapas Style / $12 a plate
"Guacamole/Tomato Salsa and Fresh Corn Chips"
Really lovely fresh corn chips, creamy Guacamole and spicy salsa!
"Spicy Beef Chimichangas with Cucumber Salsa"
Beware of the chilli factor in the cucumber salsa!

"Mexicano Style Chilli Salt Squid - Crisp with Lime"
Tender Squid with a creamy dipping sauce.

Chefs Special $16
"Grilled King Prawns - Pine nuts - Raisins - Ancho Chilli
Really fresh prawns with crunchy tail shells and great fragrant flavours.

Quesadillas $14 (12 inch Flour Tortilla grilled with filling)
"Black Bean - Slow Cooked Pork Shoulder - Farm Cheese"
These were amazing, tender pork, black beans and cheese in a soft tortilla grilled.

Soft Shell Tacos (3) per plate $16 Tortillas are Hand rolled Daily using Corn (Masa Flour and Wheat Flour)
"Grilled Chicken Achiote Farm Cheese - Salsa Mexicana"
These lovely little hand rolled and char grilled tortillas were filled with succulent chicken and spicy salsa with fresh herbs.

Mexicano was a wonderful experience, I loved the food, it was certainly a fresh and enjoyable way to go Mexican. The tapas style shared plates means you can try lots of different things and not over eat!
The menu provides lots of choices, plus a great range of sides, as well as a kids menu. Delicious hand made desserts are also on offer if you can fit it in!
I am excited at the thought of visiting again soon and even more so in the summer months, walking up to the beach, to enjoy some fresh Mexican food in the outdoor dining section as well.
It would definitely be a good idea to book ahead as I think this place is only going to grow in popularity. Trading hours are Tues-Sun 6PM-10PM
